| Device Profile: HP iPAQ Series 600, 900 smartphones |
(Sept. 6, 2007)
A phone by any other name would sound as sweet, HP appears to be reasoning. It has branded the two new smartphones in its iPAQ line the 600 Series Business Navigator and 900 Series Business Messenger, respectively.
Based on Windows Mobile 6 Professional, the devices both feature quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band HSDPA cellular radios. They also offer 802.11 b/g WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 capabilities.
For both models, HP has chosen the Marvell PXA270 processor, clocked at 520 MHz, and supported with 128 MB of RAM and 256 MB of flash. The 600 series, however, has a 2.8-inch, 240 x 320 pixel display and a standard phone keypad, while the 900 series has an QWERTY keyboard and a slightly smaller (2.5 inch) screen.

This is said to include HP iPAQ Data Connect, HP VoiceReply, HP Voice Commander6, HP Photosmart Mobile, Pocket Panel Lite, and other programs. The phones also come with built-in Google Maps, plus "assisted GPS" functionality that relies on a carrier network.
Apparently catering to enterprises that don't want cameras on their premises, HP has designed these into the devices, but says in its fine print that they're "included with some models or sold separately as an add-on feature." However obtained, the cameras can capture still images or video, providing 3 megapixels, autofocus, and 4 x digital zoom.
